2018 Goals

Hello bookworms!!

I normally don’t set resolutions or goals because I tend to always fail. However, last year I set a few goals (mostly bookish goals) and I actually managed to stick to most of them so I wanted to set a few for myself this year as well.

I created this spread in my bullet journal so I could write down my goals for each part of my life I wanted to work on. I have personal, financial, reading and blogging. Lets break it down and talk about a few things I want to focus on in each section.

  •  Wake up early: My husband works Monday-Friday so he wakes up at 6. I wake up with him but I always end up going back to sleep. I am not a morning person at all so I can sleep in pretty late. However when I sleep in I always end up waking up feeling like crap. So this year I really want to work on waking up by 7 and staying up at least during the week. I already kind of started this last year but I want to work on making it a habit everyday.
  • More water/less Dr. Pepper: I’m pretty sure I have talked about this before on my blog but guys I am addicted to Dr. Pepper. I have tried to stop drinking so much Dr. Pepper multiple times but I always end up right back where I started because I can’t handle the bad headaches I tend to get when I stop drinking them. While I’m not planning on cutting them out completely I do want to try to cut back on them and not be so dependent on them.
  • Skincare: My skin is horrible guys. I’m constantly getting breakouts and I have tried all kinds of stuff but nothing really seems to do much for me. Last year I looked into getting a facial but the place near me that does facials and massages wasn’t wheelchair accessible so I wasn’t able to go last year. Luckily they switched buildings and now they are wheelchair accessible. My goal is to finally get a facial. I’ve never had one done before so I am looking forward to this and maybe learning what I’m doing wrong (or right) with my skincare.

  • Save Money: Me and my husband both are so ready to be able to get our own place again. I want to start putting $100+ into savings to help us get closer to our own place.

  • Read 100 books: I’ve never read this many books in a year before but I think it will be fun to try.
  • Classics: This is the one I failed at last year. I’ve dabbled in reading classics but for the most part I can’t get into them. I want to read more classics because I want to find one that I can say is a favorite. Pretty much everyone loves classics and they have certain ones that are their all time favorites and I want that.
  • Read 24,000 pages: Last year I participated in the pages read challenge but didn’t reach my goal so I’ve decided to try again this year. I will be talking more about this challenge in a post later this week.
  • Reread: Again last year I participated in a challenge called ReReadIt where we were supposed to reread 1 book a month. I only reread 4 so that was pretty much a fail. This year I have decided that I want to reread 5+ books from my 2017 favorites I might even include some from my 2016 favorites but we will see. My goal is only 5 but hopefully I can reread more than that.

  • More followers: I want to try and get 800 followers. Is that achievable? Maybe. In the year and a half that I have been blogging I’ve gotten 439 followers which I still can’t believe that many people are interested in what little ole me has to say. I only need 361 more people to follow me and I will be able to reach this goal.
  • Giveaway: Back in November I hosted my very first giveaway which turned out to be a huge fail because no one even entered it. That’s ok though because I still want to do more giveaways. I can’t afford a whole lot but I still want to give back to y’all for being so amazing. My first giveaway was US only so my goal is to host a giveaway that includes all of my international friends as well.

That’s all of my goals for 2018 so far. I’m sure I will think of other goals but I think this is a great start for the year.

  1. Oh no about the giveaway! I think the best way about giveaways is to do a Book Depository one – offer a book up to $10 from the site, and that’s all you need to pay and it can be open to almost everyone! Shipping an actual book abroad would cost you loads otherwise 🙂 Good luck in all your goals!

      1. Oh, how strange! You could use Wordery! It’s the same process, free shipping worldwide 🙂 I think you can do an Amazon online giftcard overseas too though – I won an Amazon giveaway from someone in the US ince, I’m sure it didn’t cost her anything extra because she sent it to me via my email 🙂

      2. I will look into Wordery I’ve never used them before. I will have to look into the amazon gift card that will be good if I can figure it out. Thanks for the suggestions Zuky. Hopefully between the two of those I can figure something out.

      3. I have protection from my bank, I was going on vacation a few years ago and bought a bunch of music off of iTunes and my bank called me to make sure I was the one making the purchases.

      4. We have protection to. When I tried to place on order on book depository for myself they stopped the transaction from going through. That’s when I called them and asked them and they told me they could approve it for however many days I wanted but that I would be liable.

  2. yay, these are great goals!! i hope you can achieve all of them.
i am not a morning person either, but for over a year i got up at 6 every day. and it worked out. it’s just something to get used to it. i wish i could do it again, but my working hours changed, so it’s not manageble for me anymore.. 😦

  3. Great goals. I think I missed the Giveaway somehow too… not sure why. I don’t enter them tho, as I feel like others should have a chance to get them before me.

Let’s see what I shall comment on (so much!)… I have both really good and really bad skin. For the most part, no issues. BUT… when it acts up, it acts up. And I still get pimples ALL THE TIME! I thought that ended by 20 when your body stopped all its hormonal changes. Not for me.. I get blotchy skin too. What I’ve found works best, and this is definitely not ideal nor recommended from what I can tell… is doing nothing to it. I wash only with hot water. I don’t wash it before bed at night. I use 1 facial cleanser in the shower and otherwise let it just breathe and live. Any skin care person would tell me I’m awful and I admit it.

Savings is good! I wish you luck there.

I gave up said about 15 years ago. I drink seltzer now, as I need to carbonation. Maybe try replacing it little by little. Work up a schedule as in drop 1 soda per day / week / whatever works and give yourself a count down to get to a date where it’s a lot less?

    1. Thanks Jay!! I think everyone should have a chance at the giveaway.

My skin seems to act up non stop. I don’t think I’ve gone a day without have a breakout. I used to do nothing to my skin. I only started working on my skincare within the last couple of years but I still keep it to a minimum of like 3 maybe 4 products. But even adding those products hasn’t changed my skin. No they whole it ends by 20 is wrong because I’m almost 30 and I’m still struggling.

It’s really hard to save money when you have all these bills you have to pay but I’m really going to work on it this year because I need/want my own space.

When I was a kid my parents only allowed us to have 1 a day but as soon as I got out of the house that was the only thing I would drink. The longest I’ve gone on my own without drinking it is a month and then somehow I ended back on it lol. So far this year I’ve had a least 1 a day ranging from different sizes. I think this is going to be one of the hardest goals for me to reach.

  4. Love your goals! Setting your giveaways international is definitely the way to go if you want to reach more people though. I’ve done some EU only ones on Twitter / Instagram but that’s only for books I already own and want to give away, haha. International shipping seems a bit of a hassle, really..

Oh, as for skincare! I was addicted to anything soda with tons of sugar in it. Ever since I started drinking more water, my skin’s been a lot better as well. So maybe your Dr. Pepper addiction has a bit to do with that as well? Could be!

Hope you can easily save up what you want to so you guys can get your own place!

    Good luck, girl!

    1. Thank you Kathy!! I think I have found a way to be able to make my giveaway international without it costing a lot of money because of shipping thanks to Zuky.

Yeah I’ve considered that being a cause before I guess I just don’t want to admit it because I’m so addicted to it. Hopefully I will be able to cut back on them and that will help my skin some.

Thanks me too. I am very grateful for where we are now but I am so ready to have my own living space again!!

      1. Bookdepository is perfect for international giveaways!

Hm. I succeeded at cutting back by actually putting a bottle of water near me at all times. Even if I just went to cut up some vegetables: putting that bottle right in front of me. You’re more easily swayed to drink it if it’s around you all the time. At least it worked for me? And then I rewarded myself with some yummie drink when I got to sit back and relax, haha.

Completely get that! I wouldn’t want to give up our apartment for the world either, to be honest. Fingers crossed you save up plenty of money fast! 😀

      2. Oh yeah I’ve wanted to use book depository but because of my bank I’m not able to use them.

I usually always have water near me I just really don’t like water. I would much rather have something with some flavor but I have at least a glass of water a day. I know that’s not enough though.

Thanks Kathy hopefully we will be able to get a place by the end of the year or the beginning of next year.

  5. Baking soda and aloe vera have done wonders for my skin. To be honest I don’t have terrible breakouts but stress does show. I make myself a facial with soda and I put aloe vera on my face to moisturize.

I am the same when it comes to the classics. I have bought many, yet read just a few. 🙂

    1. I’ve never heard of that before for skincare that might be something worth trying.

Yeah I have so many that I found on kindle for free but yet I’ve read only a few. I’m not alone in my classics dilemma lol.
