It’s Monday What Are You Reading?

What I Recently Finished Reading

Divergent

I only finished one book this week although I did make progress on another book but we will talk more about that in a minute. Finally I read a book where I seen the movie first and still ended up enjoying the book. I hope to have my review of this up tomorrow so keep a look out for that.

What I'm Currently Reading

The Shining

Yep I am still making slow progress on this book but I am so close to finishing it. I am hoping I can finish either today or tomorrow. I’m currently on page 503/683.

What I Plan To Read Next

Replica

I am going to be starting this today sometime. It’s my second buddy read with Payton this month. I’m a little nervous about reading this one but hopefully it will be good.

Credit as always to The Book Date. Have you read any of the books I mentioned? What have you been reading lately?

    1. My biggest problem with it is his writing style. He is so descriptive and it makes it hard to stay focused on for long periods of time. That’s why it has taken me all month to read it because I keep having to take breaks. Honestly it hasn’t creeped me out or scared me at all. Maybe that’s because I find horror to be so predictable that it’s almost funny to me at least with movies anyways.

      1. His writing style definitely isn’t for everyone. I honestly enjoyed it because I didn’t feel like his being descriptive was disturbing me at all. Most of the time I feel like, when authors write like that, the pace of the story slows down ridiculously but I never had that issue when reading The Shining.
I can totally see why others would have problems with it though. I was surprised to find it didn’t bother me at all way back then. 🙂
Horror always creeps me out, haha.

      2. I don’t know if it’s because the book is so long but I am finding it to be a little slow going. Maybe it a mix of the length of the book and all the extra description that’s making it move slow for me. I am enjoying reading it and I am into the story just not so much where it’s one of those books that I can’t put down. I have to take my little breaks from it. I have always found horror movies to be predictable so they end up being funny to me. I haven’t read a whole lot of horror before and this one is t bothering me at all but maybe that’s because I am not as immersed into it as some people get.

      3. I guess it’ll be a matter of finding the authors of which the writing style suits you. I don’t know how King’s other books are since The Shining is the only one I’ve read so far, but I’m fairly convinced that’s simply the way he writes. I only took breaks right after the scary parts, sometimes even in the middle of them but, like I said, I’m a pussy.
Horror movies do tend to be pretty predictable. I can always tell when it’s time to distract myself so I don’t jump up, ha.

      4. I have a few more books by him that I plan to read eventually. I don’t hate his writing completely just how over descriptive he is. I feel like he could cut a big chunk of the book out and it would still be good. Other than that I don’t really have a problem. At least with this book right now.

      5. Yeah true. I’m kind of like half and half. On one hand his descriptions are amazing he really knows how to paint a picture for you but on the other hand (at least for me) some of the descriptions is this book just weren’t needed. They did nothing for the story it’s just filler in my opinion.

    1. I’ve only been using it for the past week and honestly I have had to go back and then to the posts after I already posted them several times cause I keep forgetting to add it in so you might have seen my posts before I put it in. Thank you I thought it was simple yet I love it.
