My Rating: 4 stars
Murder and madness infect a small town
For sixteen-year-old Ruthie Stroud, life on tiny Hemlock Island in the Pacific Northwest is an endless sea of boring green, in a place where everybody knows everybody’s business and nothing ever happens. Then her world is ripped apart when her parents divorce and a new man enters her mother’s life. But worse is yet to come.
When she drifts ashore on the mainland, hideously burned, Ruthie has a harrowing tale to tell. It begins with the murder of a family. It ends with her being the sole survivor of a cataclysm that sweeps her little island. As a detective attempts to unravel Ruthie’s story of murder and madness, only one horrifying conclusion can be drawn: whatever was isolated on remote Hemlock Island may now have come to the mainland. Is Ruthie safe? Is anyone?

Wow!! This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did. It’s very addicting and hooks you from the very first chapter.
This book switches back and forth between the past and the present which is done very well might I add and it doesn’t ever lose the build up. I would have liked a little more info on what was causing these things to happen. As it is it just seems like a 16 year old said this is why this is happening and pretty much everyone agreed. I would have liked that aspect to be explained a little bit more.
Screams you hear is action packed with an ending that most won’t see coming. I say most because if you are like me and read some reviews before you’ve even finished the book (which I usually don’t do) you will read that statement and all of a sudden you will have all kinds of scenarios running through your head. Now I will say that I didn’t picture this particular ending but I knew something was off.
Overall I was really into this book I would have just liked to have more of that edge of your seat kind of feeling. I do recommend this book but a word of warning if you have a weak stomach some of the scenes might be a little difficult for you to read. I definitely want to look into the other books he has written.
I want to thank R&R Book Tours and the author James Morris for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
