Wicked Weaves by Joyce and Jim Lavene

Wicked Weaves

Title: Wicked Weaves

Author: Joyce and Jim Lavene

Series: A Renaissance Faire Mystery #1

Format: Paperback

Source: Borrowed from Library

My Rating: 2.5 stars

First in the Renaissance Faire mystery series featuring craft apprentice and sleuth Jessie Morton.

Assistant professor Jessie Morton spends her summers at the Renaissance Village honing her skills and finding the lady, lord, or serf whodunnit.

This summer Jessie is the apprentice to Mary Shift, a basket-maker with a dark past as well as incredible weaving skills. One day a man is bid a deadly fare-thee-well with Mary’s signature weave around his neck. It’s up to Jessie to spring Mary from the stocks of the Myrtle Beach police station. Yet innocence is hard to prove in a place where there’s a fine line between reality and good theater and history is bound to repeat itself.

My Thoughts

This month I was participating in Jay’s Cozy Mystery readathon for the first 4 books in this series. I only managed to read the first book because I ended up in a reading slump and honestly that’s ok with me because after finishing this one I wasn’t going to continue with the series anyway because this wasn’t for me.

I am really new to the cozy mystery genre. This was only my second book in this genre and like I said it wasn’t my favorite. I can’t really pinpoint why I didn’t like it all that much. I just know that I was bored while reading it and it took me forever to pick it back up.

Most of the characters were annoying to me. The only character that I really liked was Chase. And the only reason I kept reading is because I was somewhat into the romance and I wanted to find out who the killer was.

    1. It was pretty good. I ate too much and I am still sick so that kind of sucks. I’m reading a little bit but I’m still in a slump. I picked up one of my Nicholas Sparks books last night to try and help me get out of it.
