Synopsis
Darkness never dies.
Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land, all while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. But she can’t outrun her past or her destiny for long.
The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling’s game of forbidden magic, and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her—or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.
My Thoughts
If you don’t know I am reading this trilogy back to back. I thought book one was a great start to the trilogy and ended up giving it 3.5 stars. This book for me was so much better.
This book starts off with a bang but then a few chapters into it things start to slow down and the plot continues to be slow for a big chunk of the book until things blow up again in the end. Even though this book is slower than book one I was still so hooked.
Everyone seems to love The Darkling and hate Mal but I am the complete opposite. I hate The Darkling. I have never been one for villains. With all the hype surrounding The Darkling I was hoping I was finally going to love a villain but that didn’t happen. Mal however I love him. He did get on my nerves a little with the way he was acting sometimes but I just can’t help but to love him. I mean he’s just a human but he can definitely hold his own.
Alina is so indecisive about well everything but mostly about all the guys in her life and let me tell you there are several and it is so annoying because there is only one choice obviously.
I don’t know what else to say but that I really loved this book and I can’t wait to pick up Ruin and Rising.
Glad you’re getting into the series more 🙂 Great review!
