Three years ago, Rikki Albemarle watched her best friend die at the hands of a supernatural evil. Certain she was slated to be the next victim, Rikki fled her small Smoky Mountain hometown, vowing to never come back. Plagued by nightmares and knowing she’s the only one who believes Mina’s death was no accident, Rikki returns with hopes of finding answers and holding the killer accountable.
Rikki is convinced the key to unlocking the secret of Mina’s death lies with Owen Amir, the alluring young army vet who once claimed her heart. But the deeper Rikki digs into Owen’s past, the more she’s torn between the urgings of her heart and her memories of him on the night Mina died.
After falling further into the rabbit hole, Rikki lands at the feet of an ancient and powerful evil determined to finish what it started years before. To survive, she’ll have to make a decision: believe Owen is the monster she always feared he might be or trust him enough to stay and fight for a second chance at love.
I want to thank the author for providing me with an ecopy via R&R Book Tours in exchange for my honest review.
This is an Urban Fantasy Paranormal Romance book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s based on Islamic Mythology which I have never read about before. The male lead Owen is of middle eastern decent and OMG guys he’s so perfect. Not literally perfect he does have his flaws and secrets which I pretty much guessed early on but still as a romantic lead I absolutely loved him.
Like I mentioned I guessed at his secret pretty early on but I didn’t understand all of the details until he laid them all out. Even knowing about his secret didn’t keep me from being fully immersed into the story. I didn’t want to stop reading.
The female lead Rikki was a little to wish washy for me. I kind of understand why she was afraid to put herself out there but at the same time I felt like it was a little extreme giving the reasons that I’m still not actually sure are the reasons. I know I’m making no sense here I’m still a little confused myself.
As for the romance. Yes I have to talk about the romance. Y’all should be used to that by now. While the romance is a huge part of the story there is so much more that is going on as well that I don’t think it takes over the story. It’s a very slow burn romance which while I love the slow build it’s not actually my favorite.
As for the ending. I just want to say that it was a great ending and would even say that it could be considered cute and romantic so not a bad ending but it’s not how I would have liked it to end. I can’t say any more without spoiling anything so you will just have to read it for yourself.
If you are in the mood for a slow burn fantasy romance with a paranormal twist I highly recommend you read this book.
