Hocus Pocus Readathon TBR

Hocus Pocus

It was on Halloween in 1693 that Winifred, Sarah, and Mary Sanderson stole the spirit of
young Emily Binx. Taking their revenge, the town of Salem hanged the three witches.
Before the Sanderson sisters took their last breath, their magic book had cast a curse that
the sisters would return on All Hallow’s Eve on a full moon when a virgin lights the black flame candle…

It’s simple. Join a team. Fight for victory.

Survive the night.

For all the information, prompts and teams involved in the readathon check out the Twitter account @HPocusReadathon.

There are three teams for this readathon: Sanderson Sisters, Undead and Trick or Treaters. I was torn between Team Undead or Team Trick or Treaters but in the end I decided to join team Trick or Treaters.

Each team has their own set of prompts so here is what I will be following for Team Trick or Treaters.

It wouldn’t be a night of Halloween fun in the heart of Salem without a
little trick or treating. Oh, and bringing back the devilish, evil Sanderson
sisters. Now it’s up to you to defeat them in a single night. Make sure you
complete your prompts in order to get enough points to reach your goal!

Team Goal: Save the Day. Requires 50 points.

Strength:  It’s up to you to defeat the Sanderson sisters. Give yourself an additional 2 points for each book you read with a witch character.

Weakness: Keep the Sanderson Sisters busy until sunrise. Complete a 24 hour readathon.

You hear the legend of the Sanderson Sisters. Set the mood for Halloween night by reading a spine-tingling book (5 points).

Light the black flame candle. Read a book by flashlight at night (5 points).

Don’t get caught by the Sanderson Sisters. Study magical foes by reading
a fantasy novel (5 points).

Thackery Binx is here to guide you all. Read a book with a squad (5
points).

Winifred has taken to the stage and is casting her spell. Cover your ears so
you don’t hear it! Listen to an audiobook (5 points).

I can’t decide what audiobook I want to listen to just yet so I am going to leave this open for right now.

Work with your team to save the day. Read the group book (10 points).

Celebrate your victory by watching Hocus Pocus (15 points).

I just couldn’t pass up participating in this readathon when I saw it. I love that it is longer than a week and it seems like a fairly easy and laid back readathon. Are any of you going to be participating? If so what team will you be joining?

  1. Seeing readathon-TBR’s makes me miss them so, so much! But I’m barely reading three books a month right now so it would feel.. frustrating to try and participate in one, I guess.

I hope you enjoy The Raven Cycle! I remember liking the books, though I didn’t fall in love with them like so many others did.

    1. I wasn’t planning on joining any for a while except for the one I cohost but when I saw this one I couldn’t pass it up. I’m hoping I don’t fail miserably at it.

I’ve only bought the first book so if I don’t like it at least I won’t have wasted money on the rest of them. I’m hoping I will end up liking it though.

      1. Haha, sounds like me before I got Jamie. Every readathon sounded sooo good! The only one I’m still participating in, is the O.W.L.s and N.E.W.T.s one, and even that one I’m doing my own way. I simply like reading with prompts too much.

That’s a win! I got them all in one go and I liked them well enough to read them all luckily.

      2. I’ve never participated in the O.W.L.s or the N.E.W.T.s I thought they were cool but for me they seem a little to in depth. I like my readathons to be laid back and easy.

My luck I’m going to like it and I’m not going to have the next book to start.

      3. That’s a good idea. Maybe one day I will try them out but who knows. Right now I’ve just been in the mood to read what I want to with no obligations.

True but I’d have to make room on my shelf first lol. It’s overflowing already.

      4. Totally understandable. I’m doing the same thing these last couple of weeks. And then keeping my fingers crossed they fit one of the N.E.W.T.s prompts, haha.

I.. have.. one entirely EMPTY bookcase right now. Safe to say I’m having a hard time not buying books simply to fill the thing..
