Hello bookworms!!
I feel like over the years I have gotten better at picking books that I know I will enjoy. That being said every year there are books that I think I am going to like that end up being disappointments. That is what I am here to talk about today. I only give a 1 star rating to books I DNF and luckily I didn’t have any of those in 2019. I did however give out seven 2 star ratings. I give 2 stars to books that I didn’t like at all for various different reasons. I’m not going to be talking about all 7 of my 2 star books today because some of them I didn’t have any expectations going into them but I did have some that I expected to be better than they were and one more so than any of the rest. Enough rambling here are the books that disappointed me in 2019 in no particular order.
I’m going to start with the book that let me down the most this year. I read the entire The Darkest Minds series this year including all of the novellas. I enjoyed every single one of them except for book number 4 The Darkest Legacy. I was told by several different people that this book wasn’t as good but since I had enjoyed all of the others I went into this hoping that I would love it. I don’t want to spoil the book if you haven’t read the series but basically I was annoyed throughout the entire book. I felt like I was reading about different characters and it felt like we were right back where we started in book 1. If you want to read my full thoughts on this book you can read my spoilery review here.
I read this at the beginning of the year as part of romanceopoly when I was still participating. I didn’t know much about this going into it but the synopsis sounded really intriguing and it was a recommendation for whatever prompt I read it for. Unfortunately this ended up being a no go for me. The main character was so judgmental of her friend for certain things and then she ended up doing the same things and it just really got on my nerves. You can read my review of it here.
The last book I am going to be talking about in this post is The Space Between Time. I read this as part of a blog tour and it ended up not being for me at all. It’s a very slow character driven book and I struggled the whole time I was reading it to even get through it. The big downfall for me was that there was so much science and math talk included and I’m just like no. I do have to point out that I seemed to have an unpopular opinion on this book so if it sounds interesting you should definitely still give it a shot. You can read my full review here.
That’s all I have for you today guys. What books disappointed you in 2019? Have you read any of my disappointments? What did you think of them if you have?
This reminds me that I need to get my goods and bads of 2019 sorted. Much like you I only really pick things I expect to be good … it’s amazing how many turn out to be quite the opposite

Yeah I definitely think I have gotten better at picking books I know I will enjoy over the years but some still always manage to sneak through.

I was disappointed by Where the Crawdads Sing. I think I expected the book to move mountains (based on the hype) and while I thought it was a beautiful, lyrical book, it just didn’t do it for me

Oh really. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it. I even had a random person in Walmart telling me I should read it. That’s the first time that’s ever happened. I do want to eventually read it.

Its beautifully written. Nature descriptions are gorgeous. I had two issues with it which took me out, so if you read it, circle back and well discuss

Hopefully I will get to it sometime in 2020. I will definitely save this to remind me to cone back and talk with you about it.

I know Infinity Son, by Adam Silvera isn’t out until 1/14, but I was sent an eARC a few months ago and it has the unenviable distinction of being my most disappointing read of 2019.😔

Oh wow. I haven’t read any of his books yet but they are on my TBR to eventually read. I think I’ve seen several people haven’t enjoyed it.

I’ve loved his previous books so I was shocked that this didn’t pan out.

I felt same for The Space Between Time. Math and space science is surely not my forte! i liked other book by the author and Ithought I might like this one but I was little disappointed and story actually made sense at the end until then I was totally cluless.

That was my first book by the author and I’m not sure I will read anything else by him. Maybe one day I will but as of right now I have no desires to.
