A winter blizzard barrels toward Wharton County with a vengeance. Madam Zenya predicted the raging storm would change the course of Kellan’s life, but the famed seer never could’ve prepared him for all the collateral damage. Nana D disappears after visiting a patient at Willow Trees, leaving behind a trail of confusion. When the patient turns up dead, and second body is discovered beneath the snowbanks, Kellan must face his worst fears. What tragedy has befallen his beloved grandmother?

Kellan’s brother Hampton learns essential life lessons the hard way after his father-in-law accuses him of embezzlement. While trying to prove his innocence, Hampton digs himself a deeper hole that might lead to prison. Sheriff Montague wants to save him, but she receives the shock of her life as the past hurtles forward and complicates her future.

Between locating Nana D and solving the scandalous murder of another prominent Braxton citizen, Kellan and April’s worlds explode with more turmoil than they can handle. Too bad neither one of them knows what to do about the psychic’s latest premonition. The suspicious deaths happening around town aren’t ending anytime soon.

My Thoughts

I was sent a copy of this book by the author as I am one of his beta readers so I just want to thank him for allowing me to do this for him.

This is book 6 in his Braxton Campus Mysteries series and while it could be read as a standalone I highly recommend starting with book 1 and working your way through the series because each book mentions things that happened in previous books as well as people who have been in previous books.

I have such a hard time writing reviews for books in general but that’s especially the case when it’s a book I absolutely loved. There’s so much to say but at the same time I can’t say most of it for fear of spoiling things for people who haven’t read it yet.

We know from the synopsis that Nana D disappears and since she is one of my favorite characters in this series I was speedily reading this trying to find out what happened to her. There are things that happened during the search for her that had my heart racing.

There were some side stories going on at the same time and a lot of them brought out several emotions in me. Of course there was all of that with Nana D, then you have the romance (that by the way does not overpower the story) and oh my gosh April was getting on my nerves with how she was handling certain situations and Fox ugh lets just say I can’t stand him. He’s cocky and I can’t believe the way he’s acting especially since he’s just appeared. If you’ve read the story then you know what I’m talking about.

There was of course some humor in here as well and then that ending!!! I immediately messaged James asking him what he thinks he’s doing. It ends on a cliffhanger like he does in every book and while I am not the biggest fan of cliffhangers only because I am impatient and want to know how things are going to turn out not because they are bad I really was blown away by this particular ending. I mean if ever I loved a cliffhanger this is one of those times. As of the time when I am writing this review this book hasn’t even released yet and I am already wanting to get my hands on the next book.

I will end with this. James has done it again. He has written 8 books now and I have loved every single one of them but this is hands down my favorite of them all. If you haven’t started this series or read any of his books yet you really are missing out.

  1. Misty,

I am stunned this morning. I knew you loved the book, but to learn it’s your favorite — WOW! My day went from ‘eh, it’s Thursday’ to ‘OMG, it’s an awesome day.’ Thank you so much.

I think you got exactly what I was hoping for with Fox, the cliffhanger, the missing Nana D drama. It was so much to balance, but it worked out. I’m grateful for all your help as an early reader. You always find those proofreading misses, weird things I just can’t see myself. Without your early input and corrections, I’d be going to the publisher and publication with grammar errors I missed!!!

    1. Yay I’m glad I could make your day better!! I love all of your books but this one just blew me away with all that you did.

I still can’t believe everything you included in this book and that ending OMG I need to know what happens. I am glad I can help you out. It’s so mind boggling that I can catch so many of those errors when I’m not the best with it myself.
