August Bookshelf Challenge TBR

TBR

Hello bookworms!!

Seeing everybody’s TBR games made me want to do a game/challenge for myself so I asked my husband to help me come up with something. I wanted to do something that would help me read the books on my bookshelf. I wanted it to be really simple because I can’t be bothered with something that’s going to cause me a lot of stress. This is what we came up with in the end.

First off that’s a working title. I could really use some help coming up with a better name because I am not creative and my husband couldn’t come up with a name. Hopefully after I explain what I am going to be doing y’all will be able to help me.

So I counted all of the books on my physical bookshelf and then I used a number generator to choose 3 books. I know this concept isn’t new at all. I have seen in done by several different bloggers/youtubers so I am not taking credit for creating it but I don’t know who the first person to do something like this was so I can’t credit them. I went with 3 books because I wanted to leave room for me to read review copies or just anything I am in the mood for.

That’s pretty simple. To make it a little bit more of a challenge I have a reward system and a punishment system. If I read all 3 books in the month that I chose them I can buy 1 book. I got this idea from Lunas Read 5 buy 1 posts. As for the punishment if I don’t read the book(s) in the month the following month I will have to add another book. So I can have up to 3 additional books added to the following months TBR. I refuse to get rid of my books if I don’t manage to read them so the only thing I could come up with as a punishment was to add another book. If you have any better punishments please feel free to tell me in the comments. This challenge/game is a work in progress.

Now shall we get to the TBR for August? I currently have 101 books on my bookshelf that are unread.

First roll #65 – The 65th book on my shelf was Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer. I have several books by this author on my shelf and I have yet to read any of them so this is a great start. Maybe this will make me want to read her other books sooner rather than later.

Letters to the Lost

Second roll #69 – The 69th book on my shelf was P.S. I Like You by Kasie West. Just like with Brigid Kemmerer I have several books by Kasie West on my shelf and I haven’t read any of them.

P.S. I Like You

Third roll #11 – The 11th book on my shelf was The Vanishing by Jayne Ann Krentz. This is a new book to me and a new to me author. I got this back in February as part of a giveaway I won.

The Vanishing

Those are the 3 books for August that I hope to get off of my shelves but I will definitely read more than that. Don’t forget to comment below if you can think of a better name for this challenge/game and if you can come up with different punishments that don’t include me having to get rid of my books please comment those below as well.

  1. I love Letters to the Lost so very much! I hope you end up loving it too! I’m also slowly trying to work through my TBR! I don’t have any specific challenge involved, but every month I try to pick up some of the books that have been on my shelves for a while, instead of only picking up new releases and new purchases. Hopefully by the end of the year I’ll be able to look back and see how my TBR has changed!
