Hello bookworms!!
We are halfway through the year and with that comes all of the mid year check in posts. Today I am sharing my progress in all of my challenges for the year. I have 10 challenges I decided to participate in this year so lets see how I am doing so far. I am not going to go to in depth about each challenge in this post but if you want to know more about them you can click here. I am just going to be talking about my progress from January-June so lets see how I am doing.
1.) The StoryGraph/Goodreads Reading Challenge
As you can see I am well over halfway through this challenge. I’ve read 74/100 books so far and I have reviewed everything I have read. According to Goodreads I am 25 books ahead of schedule and I see myself completing this challenge in the next 2-3 months.
2.) Bookbloggers 2021 Fiction Reading Challenge #BB2021FRC created by Lynne from Fictionophile
I’ve barely made any progress on this challenge this year. I’ve only finished 1 book but 2 of them are on my July TBR so hopefully I will actually start moving forward with this challenge. There are 6 months left in this year and 7 books left for me to read. Considering I am reading 2 this month alone I’m still pretty confident that I can complete this challenge by the end of the year.
- title contains a man/boys name: Dear Martin by Nic Stone
- title contains the name of an animal: Sparrow by L.J. Shen
- title contains the name of a season: Winter by Marissa Meyer
- title contains the word secret or secrets: The Secret Note by Lauren Rowe (July TBR)
- title contains a number: Two by Two by Nicholas Sparks (July TBR)
- title refers to time (hours, minutes etc.): Midnight Sun by Stephanie Meyer
- title refers to a body of water: Sea Scope by Debbie De Louise
- title contains the name of a bird: Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin
3.) What’s In A Name Reading Challenge hosted by Andrea from Carolina Book Nook
As you can tell from the below list I am doing really well with this challenge. I have read 4/6 books so I only have 2 left to read and both of them are on my July TBR so hopefully I will complete this one this month.
In 2021, choose 6 books that have titles that contain a:
- One/1 (ex. One Second After; The 100): The One by Kiera Cass
- Doubled word (ex. In a Dark, Dark Wood; Wolf by Wolf): Two by Two by Nicholas Sparks
- Reference to outer space (ex. The Fault in Our Stars): All the Stars and Teeth by Adalyn Grace
- Possessive noun (ex. The Zookeeper’s Wife): The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty
- Botanical word (ex. The Language of Flowers; The Sandalwood Tree): Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson
- Article of clothing (ex. Bossypants): Little Black Dress, Little White Lies by Laura Stampler
4.) Husband Picks
This is another one I haven’t made any progress on. Actually my progress is the same since the first check in. I have still only read one book from this list so far. I did start Roseblood but decided to hold off on reading that one until later this year because I wasn’t in the mood for it. There’s only 4 books left for me to read so it is still doable at this point.
- Shades of Wicked by Jeaniene Frost
- Slayer by Kiersten White
- RoseBlood by A.G. Howard
- Batman: Nightwalker by Marie Lu
- Nevernight by Jay Kristoff
5.) The NetGalley Reading Challenge
I am doing really well with this challenge. I started the year off with 11 books on my NetGalley shelf and have added 2 more to it since then however I have been reading 1 a month and starting in June I decided to participate in the Summer NetGalley Challenge so I am hoping to get through as many as I can by the end of August. As of right now I have read 6/13 and 3 of them are on my July TBR. I just have to say that I am really proud of myself when it comes to this challenge because I have been saying for years that I was going to read my NetGalley books and until now I never did.
- The Love Scam by MaryJanice Davidson
- Tangled Threat by Heather Graham (July TBR)
- The Wrong Kind of Love by Lexi Ryan
- Extinction of All Children by L.J. Epps
- Journey to Territory M by L.J. Epps
- Journey to Territory U by L.J. Epps
- The Lost Wife by Anna Mansell
- Guilty by Laura Elliot
- Baby Doll by Hollie Overton
- Beautifully Broken by Laura Lee
- The Inevitable Collision of Birdie and Bash by Candace Ganger
- When Sparks Fly by Helena Hunting (July TBR)
- The Dating Dare by Jayci Lee (July TBR)
6.) 21 Books In 2021
I have read 9/21 books from this list which is just shy of being halfway through this challenge. I am actually really proud of myself with this one as well because this challenge is usually one of the ones I always struggle to get through. I still think this is doable but at this point I don’t really know if I will complete this one or not but I am still going to try.
- Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson
- Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzales
- The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller
- A Court of Mist & Fury by Sarah J. Maas
- Heartstopper by Alice Oseman
- The One by Kiera Cass
- The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh
- The Edge of Great by Micol Ostow
- Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin

7.) Beat the Backlist #BeatTheBacklist #BeatTheBacklist2021 #BTB2021 Hosted by Austine & Katie from Novel Knight
My goal for this one was to read 25 backlist books and I actually completed this one is the first quarter of the year but I wanted to continue with the challenge. I didn’t set a TBR for this one. So far I have read 67 backlist books and of those 67 books 34 of them were books that I owned. I’ve never been able to complete this challenge before so the fact that I finished this one early on is a huge accomplishment for me. I am still going to keep up with this challenge and see how much more I manage to read for it.
8.) Buzzword Readathon/Reading Challenge created by Kayla from BooksandLala
My goal for this one was to just read one book a month that fit the prompt so at this point I should have read 6 books but I have only read 5. Unfortunately I didn’t get around to reading the book for March. Considering I’ve only missed 1 month so far I am really happy with my progress here.
- January (dream) Once Upon a Dream by Liz Braswell
- February (a color) Little Black Dresses, Little White Lies by Laura Stampler
- March (time) As Old As Time by Liz Braswell
- April (space/galaxy terms) All the Stars and Teeth by Adalyn Grace

- November (lost) The Lost Wife by Anna Mansell
- December (day/month/season) Winter by Marissa Meyer
9.) The Swoon Sisters Book Club hosted by Nicole from Who Picked This Book? & Daijah from Daijah’s Book World
I am loving participating in this book club. We read one book a month and so far I have read every one of the books. They have picked the next three books so I shared those below. I have finished Junes book but I haven’t written my review yet so that is why I have just linked it to Goodreads.

- April – Voyeur by Fiona Cole
- May –Managed by Kristen Callihan
- June – Black Lace by Beverly Jenkins

- August – The Takeover by T.L. Swan
- September – Vicious by L.J. Shen
- October –
- November –
- December –
10.) 20 Books of Summer created by Cathy from 746Books
This challenge started June 1 and so far for the first month I have read 6/20 of the books. I’m not going to go into anymore detail because I plan on doing a separate update post for this challenge.
There we go that is all of the progress I have made on all of the challenges I decided to participate in this year. We are halfway through the year and while I haven’t made as much progress on some of the challenges as I would have liked I still feel like I am doing really well and I still believe I could potentially complete every challenge this year but we will see how it goes. How are you coming along with your challenges?
You are doing very well Misty. It is always nice to complete a challenge, even if we are only challenging ourselves.

You are doing so great!! I’ve been doing the Magic in the Books challenge, and I only have one book to complete the whole thing. I might pick up another challenge after that. But, I’ve been enjoying being a total mood reader lately.

Thank you I am really happy with my progress so far. I haven’t heard of that challenge. What challenge do you think you will add when you finish that one? Yeah mood reading is nice!!

I’m not 100% sure. I thought about maybe doing the Popsugar Challenge, though.

I have everything wrote down and I have a couple of spreadsheets I use. If I didn’t do this I wouldn’t be able to remember everything.
