The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw
***.5 (3.5 stars)
I buddy read this with Jonny and you can click the link if you want to read his thoughts on the book. So I put off writing my review for this one way to long and I don’t really remember all that much about it now. I know I was really enjoying the romance in the beginning but a reveal toward the end kind of ruined that for me. For some reason I was expecting this book to be about mermaids and honestly I don’t even know where I got that idea from. I enjoyed learning about the town and it’s history and finding out who was “possessed” in the present. I have to say it was pretty obvious who one of them was. It was an ok read but it wasn’t something that blew me away. I would read something else by this author.

I can’t write this review without spoilers so you are warned from this point forward there will be spoilers so if you haven’t read this book yet you should probably skip this review. Reading the synopsis of this book makes you think you are going to be reading a single parent book but that’s not the case. Both parents are alive and well they are just going to be going through a divorce. The first half of this book basically goes through Russ and Vivian’s lives from when they met up to them getting a divorce. You get glimpses into the past when they first got together and them now. I absolutely hated Vivian. She was an emotionally abusive/manipulative wife and I couldn’t stand her. I swear I could only read so much every time I picked this book up because she always made me want to throw my book across the room. That’s why it took me over 2 months to finish this book. Russ was a guy who didn’t like conflict so he did everything to make Vivian happy including letting her walk all over him which again made me want to throw the book. I wanted him to grow a pair and put her in her place. The last half of the book while still following along with the divorce it switches gears a little bit because Russ is now having to deal with his sister having Cancer and all that entails. This book put me through the ringer with my emotions. It went from anger in the beginning to crying my eyes out in the end. At first I was thinking I wasn’t liking the book because of how much I was hating Vivian but the more I thought about it the more I realized if he’s eliciting that much emotion out of me that’s a good thing to me that’s how someone should react. In the end Sparks has done it again for me and created another amazing book.

When I first read this book/trilogy I gave them all 5 stars. I was so hooked!! Mostly on the romance of course!! This time around I was still hooked on the romance but because everything wasn’t new to me I wasn’t as hooked. Also I noticed things like how long the chapters were which now drives me crazy and the fact that nothing much happens with the main plot throughout any of the books until the last one. It is dragged out and then is resolved pretty easily in my opinion. I still really enjoyed my reread I just lowered my rating to 4 stars instead of 5. Below is my original review.
It has been a while since I have been so into a book or book series that I couldn’t put it down. That is the case with this trilogy. Every time I put the book down I found myself constantly thinking about it. This is by far one of the best series I have ever read I cant believe it took me so long to read them. I cant decide on how I feel about the ending. On one side I am completely heart broken but then again I think that it couldn’t have ended any better. I read this series first before the mortal instruments and I found that I understood everything without a problem. If you have not read this series yet I highly suggest that you do.
