This Week In Books

My Week In Books 8/23 – 8/29

Hello bookworms!!

Wow this was a pretty busy week. My mother in law had appointments Monday-Wednesday. One was her chemo treatment but the others were because her toe had started to turn purple. Apparently it is called purple toe syndrome so they had to do a couple of tests to see what was going on. It actually started to get better on its own through all of this and the tests luckily didn’t show anything. I then had an unexpected doctors appointment on Thursday and my poor dog Shelby had to go to the vet on Saturday. That was the hardest day. She is a very anxious dog and is scared of pretty much everything. On the way to the vet she had an accident in my car which is fine but since she has a UTI the smell is horrible. On top of that she has an ear infection plus she’s having some skin allergies. We weren’t allowed to go back with her because of COVID so we were stressing out knowing how anxious she was. By the time we got her back she was shaking so bad. She has some medicine but unfortunately we have to take her back in 2 weeks to make sure the treatment is working which I am not looking forward to. So yeah I have spent pretty much the entire week in doctors offices but I still managed to get a lot of reading done.

~ Recently Finished ~

I finished 3 books this week. The first book I finished was Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin. I was reading this while I was waiting for my mother in law to see the doctor everyday. I absolutely loved it and can’t wait to read the next book. I then finished The Twelve by Justin Cronin which again I really loved. I’m really enjoying this series so far my only complaints are that I am having a hard time keeping up with all of the characters and the timeline beyond that it’s amazing and I can’t wait to read the next one in September. Last but not least I finished Maggie Dove by Susan Breen. I am part of the blog tour for this book on September 3rd so keep an eye out for my review then but I will say that I ended up liking it more than I thought I would.

~ Currently Reading ~

I made a little bit of progress in The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty this week but not much. I’m now 318 pages into it. I’m liking this one but I’m not as into it as I thought I would be. I then started reading City of Glass by Cassandra Clare which I am buddy reading with Erin. Whenever we finish one of the books we move onto the next. We are now only reading 5 chapters a week since she has started back to school so we will be getting through one a month from here on out for a while. I’m currently 118 pages into this one and I’m still enjoying it but I will say I am not enjoying this story as much as I did The Infernal Devices Trilogy.

~ Reading Next ~

The Takeover

I am not going to be able to read all of the books on my August TBR but I still need to read The Takeover by T.L. Swan for The Swoon Sisters Book Club. My hope is that I will be able to finish at least The Husbands Secret by the end of the month and get a start on The Takeover, however I would really like to be able to finish The Takeover as well but I don’t think that’s doable.

What have you recently finished reading? What are you currently reading? What do you plan to read next? Have you read any of the books I mentioned?

  1. I feel for you and your dog, Misty. Our cat isn’t a fan of the vet either, but I had to take him in on Thursday with a respiratory infection. Luckily, they’ve started letting us go back with them so that helps with his anxiety. Hope this week is better for you!

    1. My dog isn’t a fan of going anywhere. She never leaves the house unless we have to take her to the vet which luckily isn’t very often. Yeah it was definitely hard. We had to sit in the waiting room while they took her back. Thank you. She actually seems to be responding really well to the medicines they put her on so hopefully they are actually working.
