Final 2021 Challenge Check In

Hello bookworms!!

I am finally going to share the rest of my 2021 end of year posts with y’all. I participated in 10 challenges this year and my goal was to try and complete all of them. Did I do it? That is what we are going to find out today. I did set goals for 2021 but I am not going to be doing a wrap up post for them because I kind of fell off the wagon with all of them. If you want to see my last goals check in just click the link. Pretty much everything I said in that post is the same today. Anyways lets take a look at how I did on all of the challenges I signed up for in 2021.

1.) The StoryGraph/Goodreads Reading Challenge 135/100 (COMPLETE)

So I completed this challenge in September I believe. So I have surpassed it at this point. The graphic above isn’t even accurate because there were some books I read that I couldn’t find on Goodreads so I couldn’t log them but I did count them. I actually ended the year reading 135 books.

2.) Bookbloggers 2021 Fiction Reading Challenge #BB2021FRC created by Lynne from Fictionophile 8/8 (COMPLETE)

It took me to the end of the year pretty much, but I did complete this challenge. I had a planned TBR for this but I ended up switching out several of the books because I was just never in the mood to read the books I put down or I ran out of time and I had to switch it to something I did read. Luckily, I had read something to fit each of the prompts. If Lynne does this challenge again in 2022 (she is) I will most likely join again.

  1. title contains a man/boys name: Dear Martin by Nic Stone
  2. title contains the name of an animal: Catwalk by Nicole Gaber
  3. title contains the name of a season: Dog Days of Summer by Barbara Venkataraman
  4. title contains the word secret or secrets: The Secret Note by Lauren Rowe
  5. title contains a number: Two by Two by Nicholas Sparks
  6. title refers to time (hours, minutes etc.): Infinity Son by Adam Silvera
  7. title refers to a body of water: The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune
  8. title contains the name of a bird: Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin

3.) What’s In A Name Reading Challenge hosted by Andrea from Carolina Book Nook 6/6 (COMPLETE)

Here I am with another one completed. So far I am 3 for 3. I finished this challenge back in August. So, while it didn’t take me the whole year, I feel like it still took me longer than it should have considering it was only 6 prompts. I will be participating in this challenge again in 2022.

In 2021, choose 6 books that have titles that contain a:

  1. One/1 (ex. One Second AfterThe 100): The One by Kiera Cass

  4. Possessive noun (ex. The Zookeeper’s Wife): The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty
  5. Botanical word (ex. The Language of FlowersThe Sandalwood Tree): Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

4.) Husband Picks 1/5 (FAIL)

I don’t know why I keep doing this challenge every year because every year I always fail. In 2021 I even cut it back to 5 books instead of the 10 I usually let him pick and I still didn’t complete it. And guess what? I’ve already got him to pick 5 books for me to read in 2022. Do we think I can actually read them this time?

  1. Shades of Wicked by Jeaniene Frost
  2. Slayer by Kiersten White
  3. RoseBlood by A.G. Howard
  4. Batman: Nightwalker by Marie Lu
  5. Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

5.) The NetGalley Reading Challenge 13/14 (COMPLETE)

I know y’all are looking at that thinking you have one unread so how is that complete? When I started this challenge at the beginning of the year I only had 11 books on my NetGalley shelf and those were the books I wanted to complete this year and I have completed all of them plus 2 others that I added this year. I have one left but it’s not being published until January and I plan to read it then so that is why I am considering this one completed. I think I am the most proud of myself for completing this challenge. I signed up for NetGalley in 2017 I believe so several of the books on this list if not most of them were from when I first signed up. Every year I would say I’m going to clear out my NetGalley shelf and every year that would never happen. Until now!!

  1. The Love Scam by MaryJanice Davidson
  2. Tangled Threat by Heather Graham
  3. The Wrong Kind of Love by Lexi Ryan
  4. Extinction of All Children by L.J. Epps

  12. When Sparks Fly by Helena Hunting
  13. The Dating Dare by Jayci Lee
  14. How to Love Your Neighbor by Sophie Sullivan

6.) 21 Books In 2021 11/21 (FAIL)

This is another one of those challenges that I keep setting for myself and I keep failing. I read half of my list though, so I am still kind of happy about that even though this was yet again a fail. I have decided I am not going to be doing this challenge in 2022.

  1. Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson
  2. Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzales
  3. The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller
  4. A Court of Mist & Fury by Sarah J. Maas
  5. Heartstopper by Alice Oseman

  12. The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware
  13. Lost in a Book by Jennifer Donnelly
  14. Still Me by Jojo Moyes
  15. Love & Luck by Jenna Evans Welch
  16. Midnight Sun by Stephanie Meyer
  17. A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer
  18. The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society by Marry Ann Shaffer
  19. Lucky in Love by Kasie West
  20. The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black
  21. Winter by Marissa Meyer

7.) Beat the Backlist #BeatTheBacklist #BeatTheBacklist2021 #BTB2021 Hosted by Austine & Katie from Novel Knight 116/25 (COMPLETE)

My goal for this one was to read 25 backlist books and I actually completed this one in the first quarter of the year but I wanted to continue with the challenge. I didn’t set a TBR for this one. This year I read 116 backlist books and of those 116 I owned 59 of them whether they were physical or ebook. This is another one I am really proud of because I’ve never been able to complete this challenge before so the fact that I finished this one early on is a huge accomplishment for me.

8.) Buzzword Readathon/Reading Challenge created by Kayla from BooksandLala 8/12 (FAIL)

My goal for this was to read 1 book a month that fit the prompt. While I didn’t get to participate every single month, I am still really happy with how much I did manage to read for this challenge and I do plan to participate again in 2022.

  1. January (dream) Once Upon a Dream by Liz Braswell
  2. February (a color) Little Black Dresses, Little White Lies by Laura Stampler
  3. March (time) As Old As Time by Liz Braswell
  4. April (space/galaxy terms) All the Stars and Teeth by Adalyn Grace
  5. May (house/home) Hometown Girl by Courtney Walsh
  6. June (name/title) The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black
  7. July (last) The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager
  8. August (time of day) Midnight Sun by Stephani Meyer
  9. September (dark) A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer
  10. October (elements) Sea Scope by Debbie De Louise
  11. November (lost) City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare
  12. December (day/month/season) Winter by Marissa Meyer

9.) The Swoon Sisters Book Club hosted by Nicole from Who Picked This Book? & Daijah from Daijah’s Book World 9/12 (FAIL)

The books for October and November weren’t available on Scribd and I couldn’t get them from my library so I wasn’t able to read those. I had planned on reading December’s book because it was available on Scribd but my reading slowed down a lot in December and I was focusing on reading other things. I read 9 out of the 12 books this year so while I technically failed this I consider it a success. I haven’t decided yet if I will participate in 2022 or not. If you didn’t know I created my own book club and that will be starting in January so that’s going to be my main priority for book clubs. I might still try to participate in this one though because that just means more romance.

10.) 20 Books of Summer created by Cathy from 746Books 15/20 (Complete)

This is one where I technically didn’t complete this challenge but I am counting it as complete. My goal was to read all 20 books without switching any out. I ended up reading 15 of the 20. The reason I am counting this as a success is because I have participated in this challenge several times before and this was the first time I have ever read this much.

20 books of summer

  1. The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black
  2. The Wrong Kind of Love by Lexi Ryan
  3. The One by Kiera Cass
  4. Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzales
  5. Lucky in Love by Kasie West
  6. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer
  7. The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager
  8. Midnight Sun by Stephanie Meyer
  9. The Dating Dare by Jayci Lee
  10. When Sparks Fly by Helena Hunting
  11. The One With You by Kristina Steiner
  12. Safekeeping by Eva MacKenzie
  13. Tangled Threat by Heather Graham
  14. Beautifully Broken by Laura Lee
  15. The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty
  16. Serpent and Dove by Shelby Mahurin
  17. The Secret Note by Lauren Rowe
  18. Sparrow by L.J. Shen
  19. Vicious by V.E. Schwab
  20. Blanca & Roja by Anna-Marie McLemore

There you have all of the challenges I participated in and how I did in each one. I ended up completing 6/10. I didn’t complete all 10 of them but it was over half of them and I did do really well with all of them so that’s a win in my book. How did you do with all of your 2021 challenges?
