Hello bookworms!!
Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by lost in a story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.
Most of you probably know this feeling, your Goodreads TBR pile keeps growing and growing and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You keep adding, but you add more than you actually read. And then when you’re scrolling through your list, you realize that you have no idea what half the books are about and why you added them. Well, that’s going to change!
It works like this:
- Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go
I have decided that I am only going to include images of the books I am keeping so I don’t use up too much of my photo storage. Also, if I haven’t started a series, I am only going to be keeping the first book in the series. There’s a possibility they will be added back if I enjoyed the first book enough to want to carry on. And lastly, I can already tell you that if I own the book, I will not be taking it off my want to read shelf whether it’s the first book in a series or the last.
Keeping:
I own this book so I will be keeping it plus I’ve already read the first 3 books. I really need to read this one so I can finish the series.
I own this book so I will be keeping it as well. I have put this on so many TBRs and never actually read it. I think it’s because I’ve already seen the movie, but I do still really want to read this.
When I saw this cover, I thought oh this will be another one to get rid of but after I read the synopsis, I was very intrigued, so I am keeping this one.
I was seriously considering getting rid of this one but after seeing so many people I know rating it highly I decided to keep it. Also, when I saw it was by Krista and Becca Ritchie, I decided to give it a try. I’ve read a couple other books by these authors that I just thought were ok. I want to give something else by them from a different series a try.
I’ve read a few books by this author at this point and enjoyed them so I will be keeping this one. This is another author where I would eventually like to read everything they have written.
I was on the fence about keeping this one but in the end, I decided I was still interested in reading it. I’ve been reading more Thrillers lately so that probably played a part in why I decided to keep it as well.
Removing:
The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson
Beautiful Broken Things by Sara Barnard
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
Myths of Immortality by Raye Wagner
Until You by Penelope Douglas (these may be added back after I read the first book)
Rival by Penelope Douglas
Falling Away by Penelope Douglas
Aflame by Penelope Douglas
Twister by Michael Crichton & Anne-Marie Martin
Stats:
- Kept – 6
- Removed – 9
- Starting Amount – 1,746
- Previous Amount – 1,624
- New Amount – 1,615
I’m still managing to remove some books from my want to read shelf which is always a success to me. I got rid of 9 this week some of which might eventually be added back depending on if I like the first book or not. I have to point out that the new amount total does not include the books I have added to my TBR since starting this little challenge. Once I get to the end, I will let y’all know how many books I added while doing this. Did I get rid of a book that you think I should keep? Let me know in the comments why you think I should add it back because I can definitely be persuaded to change my mind.
I tried whittling down the TBR a few years ago and did some posts on it, but then I just gave up, lol. It’s a losing battle. Good luck, Misty!

Yeah I’m constantly adding more books but I have made a little bit of a dent. I’m going to try to go through all of the books once but I might get tired of doing it after a while.

The only book you got rid of that I’ve read is Sharp Objects, and I don’t think you made a mistake there. I didn’t love it. Hope you enjoy the keepers!

I wasn’t too much of a fan of Sharp Objects, but I did enjoy The Sky Is Everywhere… Winter was such a great sequel though. I should probably do a Goodreads clean myself soon because my TBR is exploding haha.

You’re the second person to tell me they didn’t care for Sharp Objects. The synopsis for The Sky is Everywhere sounded good but I just know I won’t read it anytime soon. That’s exactly why I decided to finally do it myself.

I have that with a lot of YA books myself to be honest… It’s not that they don’t sound good, but somehow I’m not really reading a lot of YA anymore. Sure cleans up a TBR in the mean time. 😉
