This Week In Books

My Week In Books 8/1 – 8/7

Hello bookworms!!

This past week was a rough one. I got a call from my aunt on Monday that I never expected to get. She told me that my granny’s cancer is back but now it’s in her liver as well as her lymph nodes and the fluid they took off of her lunges was cancerous as well. So basically, now that it’s in her lymph nodes it has free range to spread all throughout her body. She’s not doing chemo this time because she isn’t strong enough. Her oxygen drops instantly if she does anything. It’s so bad that she can’t even talk on the phone because she just gives out. I think I mentioned that my car broke down last week, so I had no way of getting myself to Florida. Luckily my sister was able to take a couple days off work, so she came and picked me up and then we headed to Florida. My granny is the strongest woman I know so seeing her bed ridden was hard. We were only able to stay a couple of days and when we told her we were leaving she was like oh really and she looked sad. I almost lost it then. I was trying to be strong for her because I didn’t want to upset her. Her mind is still there and she’s still feisty as ever, but she has gone downhill fast. My husband is working on my car but so far everything that he has replaced hasn’t changed anything. I’m hoping that once we are able to replace an O2 sensor that will fix the problem. I am getting the results of my nerve test today and hopefully coming up with something to help with this pain. On the reading front I was able to finish 3 books this week despite not having a whole lot of time to read. Here is what my reading looked like this week.

~ Recently Finished ~

The first book I read this week was a graphic novel. I read Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me by Mariko Tamaki. I thought this was a cute easy read, but it didn’t blow me away. I was able to finish Waking Gods by Sylvain Neuvel the day before I left for Florida. I was buddy reading this one with Destiny. I’m still enjoying this series and want to read the last book. I will say this one was a little heavier on the science aspect and I didn’t like that because it all pretty much went over my head. I finished A Wedding at Sandy Cove by Bella Osborne the day after I got back from Florida. I felt so bad because my post for this was supposed to go up on Thursday but because of the family emergency I wasn’t able to post it until Sunday. This was my first book by this author, and I really enjoyed it.

~ Currently Reading ~

Under the Dome

The plan was to have this finished this weekend but since I wasn’t able to read as much as I usually would I didn’t get to finish it. I still have 3 parts left which is around 300 pages. I say this every time I talk about this book, but I’ve really been enjoying it however the ending is going to determine how much I really enjoy it overall.

~ Reading Next ~

I still haven’t shared my TBR for August but these are books I have talked about at some point so I thought I would share them. Book Lovers and Booked on a Feeling are carrying over from July. Book Lovers was the Lost in Romance book club pick for July and I never got around to reading it but I still want to read it so I’m going to jump into that soon. Booked on a Feeling is a book that released last month and I got the ARC from NetGalley and of course I wasn’t able to get it read on time so I need to get to it soon as well. Last but not least is The Hating Game. This is the Lost in Romance book Club pick for August and it is actually a reread for me. I’ve been wanting to reread this for a couple years now so I am really looking forward to finally rereading it.

What have you recently finished reading? What are you currently reading? What do you plan to read next? Have you read any of the books I mentioned?

  1. I’m sorry about your grandmother. It’s heartbreaking to watch someone we admire falling prey to such diseases.
I read Themis Files last year. The science gets heavier as you go, and some deaths make you grit your teeth, but I enjoyed the series very much. I’ve never read a book written in Sylvain Neuvel’s style before.

  2. So sorry to hear about your grandmother. Glad you got some time in with her, though. I hope your car troubles get straightened out with the sensor change, and that the nerve test provides some answers for you!
I just started my reread of The Hating Game. 🙂

    1. Thank you Ali. I’m glad we were able to visit for a couple days. My husband plans on working on it this week sometime so hopefully we will know if it works soon. As for the nerve test it came back normal so we still don’t know what’s going on. I’m going to see a hand specialist next week.

  3. I saw your post on Twitter yesterday, Misty and am so sorry for the loss of your granny. It is great that you were able to get to Florida to see her. I enjoyed Booked on a Feeling, but it was not 5 stars. I hope you like it and the others you get to read.
