Hello bookworms!!
It’s that time of year where we start posting all of our end of year posts. Honestly I probably should have already started this but in true Misty fashion I kept putting it off until I couldn’t put it off any longer. I decided to start with my challenge update post because I’m not going to be making anymore progress in any of them. I had 7 challenges I was trying to do in 2020 and spoiler alert I failed every single one of them However, I did read for every single challenge so that’s a success in my book. This post might be a little long so grab a snack and something to drink and now on to the books.
Goodreads Reading Challenge 90/100
As of Christmas Day when I am typing this up I have finished 89 books but in the remaining 6 days of the month I plan to finish one of the books that has been on my currently reading shelf for a while now. So while I didn’t read the 100 books I set out to read I got pretty dang close by reading 90 and I am happy with that. I am not going to link to every book I read this year because I do a separate post where I share all of the books I read in the year so keep an eye out for that one.
In Death Series Read-along 5/12
I joined this challenge this year just to try something new and I’m so glad I did because I’m really enjoying this series. I didn’t read the 12 I had hoped to read this year but I did read the first 5 and that’s a pretty good start. I hope to continue on with this series in 2021.
- Naked in Death by J.D. Robb
- Glory in Death by J.D. Robb
- Immortal in Death by J.D. Robb
- Rapture in Death by J.D. Robb
- Ceremony in Death by J.D. Robb
My goal was to read all of the Nicholas Sparks books I had yet to read before his newest book was released in September but that didn’t happen. I managed to read 4 of the 9 books on my list and 1 of those was his new release.
- A Bend in the Road by Nicholas Sparks
- Message in a Bottle by Nicholas Sparks
- Nights in Rodanthe by Nicholas Sparks
- The Return by Nicholas Sparks
20 In 2020 3/20
I chose 10 ebooks and 10 physical books for this challenge and I managed to read 2 ebooks and 1 physical book. Again it was progress and that’s all that matters.
- The Bromance Book Club by Lyssa Kay Adams
- The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling
- The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Husband Picks 4/10
This is the second challenge where I almost read half of my goal. Anyways I plan to try this challenge again next year but I am going to do it a little bit different.
- The Wicked King by Holly Black
- Cujo by Stephen King
- Message in a Bottle by Nicholas Sparks
- Slasher Girls and Monster Boys by April Genevieve Tucholke
I didn’t really do so well with getting my NetGalley shelf down but I did really well with my review copies. In 2021 I’m going to be focusing on NetGalley because I want to get it empty.

This is the second year I’ve attempted this challenge and both times I start off really strong and get about halfway through the board and then I just give up for some reason. Oh well this challenge has made me read books I probably wouldn’t have picked up on my on. Sadly they want be doing this challenge in 2021 but maybe they will do it again in 2022 and I will be ready to try again.

Wow that took me forever to put together. So as I said already I didn’t complete any of the challenges I set out to do in 2020 but I did fairly good on several of them and as I’ve said before it’s all about trying for me. If I don’t reach a goal yes it’s a little bit of a bummer but I don’t let it bother me. I tried and that’s all I could do so I am happy with where I’ve ended the year.
Like you said, you read some books you might not have otherwise, so that is a success to me. Great job, Misty.

Thank you!! Yeah in 2019 I participated in so many. I wanted to take part in less in 2020 and I did but it was still a lot.

I love reading your challenge wrap-ups every year. It inspires me to try some challenges, too! Great post, Misty! Also you read so broadly, that’s really cool.

Aww I’m so glad you enjoy them. I know challenges can be stress inducing for some people but they kind of motivate me to keep reading. Yeah I will read anything just so long as the synopsis sound intriguing to me.

Hey, you did really well on a lot of these challenges, especially with how much of a mess 2020 was! And as long as you’re happy with your progress, that’s what matters! Cheers to 2021 being better for everyone!
